Brief

Make the launch of Irish charity The Nial Mellon Township Trust relevant to the people of Manchester. We met this head on by using shock tactics to communicate how the charity assists disadvantaged communities in Africa.

Democracy PR Response

  • Created the Make Manchester Proud core communications tool kit, including logo, build and content development of the website and integrated social media activity.
  • Staged a launch event at the Midland Hotel on Saint Patrick’s Day with VIP guests including the Lord Mayor and prominent councillors.
  • Photocall with Irish/City footballer Shay Given wearing a branded hard hat and carrying a branded shovel.
  • Developed a fundraising kit to be presented to corporate sponsors.
  • Created shocking headlines in both the UK and Ireland with an attention grabbing shanty town, built outside Manchester Town Hall.

  • Print media which covered the story included Manchester Evening News, The Irish Independent, Irish World, Irish Post, South Manchester Reporter, The South African.
  • Over subscription for volunteers from the target catchment.
